Why Report: Query Fan-Out Gap Map
See which follow-up questions your page answers for a search, which it misses, and what to add.
Every match quotes your own page text, competitor pages are read for each gap, and drafts flag any fact you must confirm.
DataForSEO key optional for live Google ranks
How to use this tool
The Why Report splits a search into likely follow-up questions and shows which ones your page answers and which it misses. Use it before you update a page you want to rank for a specific query.
- Enter your page URL and the search query you want to win.
- Optionally paste up to a few competitor page URLs, one per line. If you leave this empty, the tool reads top-ranking pages from live Google results, which needs a DataForSEO account.
- To see live Google ranks per sub-query, open the DataForSEO section and add your login, API password, market and language.
- Click Find Out Why, then read each sub-query card.
- Use Export CSV to take the gaps and drafts into your content plan.
What it checks
- A coverage percentage across the sub-queries it generated.
- For each sub-query: its intent and a coverage label, with the passage from your page that was matched.
- A short note on what to add where your page has a gap.
- The competitor passage that answers a gap, with the competitor domain.
- A draft you can adapt for your page. Check every fact in it before you publish.
- How many page passages were checked out of the total, and the DataForSEO cost if you used your account.
Questions
Are these the real queries Google runs?
No. The sub-queries are an AI estimate of how answer engines may split a search. Google does not publish its real fan-out queries.
Do I need an API key?
No key is required for the page and competitor analysis. A DataForSEO account is optional and only adds live Google results and ranks, billed by DataForSEO.
Why was only part of my page checked?
Long pages are cut to fit the analysis. The results show how many passages were checked out of the total.
