Hreflang Tag Generator

Build reciprocal hreflang link tags for the language and region versions of a page, with an x-default entry.

Outputs the full set of alternate link tags to paste into every version of the page.

How to use this tool

This tool turns a list of language and region codes with URLs into hreflang link tags. Use it when you have translated or regional versions of a page.

  1. In the Locale Pairs box, write one pair per line as code | URL, for example en-us | https://example.com/en/.
  2. Put your default version on the first line.
  3. Review the generated tags.
  4. Click Copy Tags and paste the full set into the head of every page in the cluster.

What it checks

Questions

Does it check that my codes are valid?

No. It copies the code you type. Use an ISO 639-1 language code, optionally followed by an ISO 3166-1 region code, such as en-gb.

Does it make an XML sitemap version?

No. It outputs HTML link tags only.

Does every page need the full set?

Yes. Each page in the cluster should list all versions, including itself, so the links point both ways.
